The lights slowly transition thru the rainbow when turned on by pressing a button on the bottom. With another push of the button they stay on the color they are on. With another push of the button they changed to the next color thru the whole series eventually. If you hold the button down for a few seconds they turn off. Or leave them on and in about one hour they turn off automatically to save the batteries.
